Beleaguered flag carrier Srilankan Airlines is dropping Paris and Frankfurt from its long haul network.
Srilankan will suspend flights to the two destinations in October and November respectively, as the Sri Lanka government looks to stem big losses in the state owned carrier.
"While the drop in fuel prices has contributed to the airline’s improved performance, this benefit has been significantly eroded with the airline’s revenues declining for 2015/16 compared to the previous year," the airline said in a statement.
The carrier also said competition from Gulf carriers is taking its toll with falling airfares in European markets.
Srilankan will continue to fly daily nonstop to London and use its long established codeshare agreements with Etihad and Qatar Airways for other onward European connections.
Srilankan flies daily to both airlines’ hubs in Abu Dhabi and Doha.
