Storm set to hit tourist spots in Thailand

Saturday, 04 Jan, 2019 0

Tropical Storm Pabuk has made landfall on the southern coast of Thailand and is expected to move across to top tourist spots.

Boat sailings and flights have been affected and thousands of tourists have been forced to leave the islands of Koh Samui, Koh Pha Ngan and Koh Tao, which are expected to be among the worst hit.

The storms, thought to be the worse in 30 years, are also due to affect the popular resorts of Phuket and Krabi.

The UK Foreign Office has updated its advice, telling holidaymakers to check travel plans with transport providers before leaving their hotel or home, follow instructions from local authorities and monitor weather warnings from the Thai Meteorological Department.

The warnings apply to Surat Thani (Koh Samui, Koh Pha Ngan and Koh Tao), Chumporn, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phuket, Krabi, Trang, Ranong, Phang Nga, Satun and Song Khla, as well as Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat.

Thai Airways is advising passengers on certain routes to check the status of their flight.
