Stranded bomb threat Air India passengers reach destination by military plane
Over 200 Air India passengers completed their scheduled flight to Chicago via a Canadian Air Force military plane after yet another hoax bomb threat.
The Air India flight from Delhi to Chicago was diverted to the remote Nunavut region in Canada.
It landed at Iqaluit Airport where all passengers deplaned.
However, the plane could not be screened due to no explosive detection equipment in the region and there were not sufficient accommodations for the 211 stranded passengers.
Air India was unable to get a replacement plane there so the Canadian federal government approved a military flight to get the passengers to Chicago.
“We have approved a request to have the Canadian Armed Forces provide an airlift to get passengers safely to their destination in Chicago,” Defence Minister Bill Blair posted on social media.
“Despite great efforts, the city of Iqaluit is not equipped to house these passengers. I have approved a request to ease the pressure on Iqaluit and send passengers safely to their destination,” Emergency Preparedness Minister Harjit Sajjan posted on X
It is the fourth hoax bomb threat against Air India in just a few days.
On Monday, three India flights were disrupted due to three separate bomb threats.
