Strike to hit holidaymakers over August Bank Holiday

Tuesday, 8 August 20173 min read

A planned strike by Portuguese immigration officers could cause long delays for holidaymakers over the Bank Holiday weekend.

The union representing SEF immigration officers has announced they will take further industrial action on August 24 and 25.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office said that if the action goes ahead it could cause delays at airports. The SEF workers have been taking industrial action since January in a protest over the loss of certain rights, and in the past such action has led to airport queues of up to two hours.

In new advice issued for Portugal today, the FCO said those travelling to Portugal during the planned strike action should allow additional time to clear border controls, both when entering and leaving the country.
