The Good Book is getting harder to find in hotel rooms across the nation.
Hotel analytics firm STR says the percentage of hotels that have religious materials like the Bible in rooms has almost halved in a decade.
Since 2006 it has fallen from 95% to 48% this year.
However STR said only about one third of the more than 8,000 hotels surveyed answered the question about religious material placed in rooms.
Still, there is a gradual move away from placing Bible in rooms, due in part to pressure from atheist groups and a fear of offending guests of other religions such as Muslims or Buddhists.
Travelodge hotels in the UK stopped placing Bibles in hotel rooms two years ago while Bibles are not found at Marriott International brands Moxy and Edition because ‘religious books don’t fit the personality of the brands,’ according to Marriott spokeswoman Felicia Farrar McLemore.
"The decline of religious materials in hotels, as cited in the survey, is reflective of increasing secularism and independence in the world," said Jeff Pack, Gideons International’s director of communications, the LA Times reported.
