Survey reveals rise in ‘relation vacation’
Financial pressures means more people can’t afford a proper holiday and are staying with family and friends instead.
A survey by Direct Line travel insurance reveals that almost half (48%) of respondents have taken, or plan to go on, a ‘relation vacation’ – staying with family or friends.
Of those, 22% said they could not afford a holiday unless they stayed with family or friends.
More than one in 10 (11%), say they only keep in touch with friends and family to take advantage of their holiday accommodation.
‘Relation vacationers’ can make savings of around £447 per week on holiday accommodation by lodging with loved ones for a week or two abroad.
