Suspected norovirus on Celebrity cruise
Celebrity Cruises has confirmed a number of passengers have been struck down with a gastro bug on a New Zealand sailing.
The line said at least 18 cruisers were affected of suspected norovirus, which seems to be a continuation from a previous sailing.
The Celebrity Solstice departed Sydney earlier this week and almost immediately gastro like symptoms were being reported.
The 12-day New Zealand sailing ends in Auckland on November 11.
“There have been 18 reported cases of gastro-intestinal illness symptoms. Those affected by the short-lived illness are being treated by the ship’s doctors and responding well to over-the-counter medication,” the line said in a statement.
Passengers boarding the ship in Sydney on Monday told local media there was a delay due to intensive cleaning taking place after an earlier outbreak of gastro.
Health officials in Melbourne, where it docked on Wednesday, said sick passengers were quarantined in their cabins to contain any further spread.
