Sweet news from Southwest: airline with a “heart”

Wednesday, 19 Jun, 2006 0

Southwest Airlines is celebrating its 35th anniversary this week with a promotion frequent flyers will hope others will emulate: candy giveaways.

Flyers will be receiving Brach’s handmade peppermint nougats with heart centers.

As part of its “Spread the Luv” message, Southwest also created a Virtual Food Bank on its Web page to raise 35,000 jars of peanut butter for Food Banks affiliated with America’s Second Harvest.

When Southwest was founded 35 years ago, less than one in four Americans had flown. Whatever credit Southwest deserves, it boasts figures that show today more than 88 million Americans fly sometime in a year.
