Tahiti to reopen for international travellers on 1 May
The Islands of Tahiti will start welcoming foreign tourists again from next month.
It will reopen on 1 May after the President of French Polynesia, Edouard Fritch travelled in Paris to discuss progress with members of the French government and President Emmanuel Macron.
Fritch updated officials with news that the Covid-19 situation in French Polynesia has improved and is under control.
The vaccination rollout is progressing well and is now open to all citizens.
New entry formalities taking into account vaccinated residents and immunised travellers are being finalised.
"We are going to put in place a protocol at the entry of our borders using virological testing, serological testing, vaccines and ETIS (Electronic Travel Information System). We will explain this protocol in detail with the High Commissioner in the coming days," President Fritch said at a pess briefing in Tahiti.
French Polynesia was awarded a ‘Safe Travels by WTTC’ designation by the World Travel & Tourism Council, which recognises the country’s efforts in the implementation of health security measures.
