Taiwan blocks group tours to China
Taiwan’s Tourism Administration has told travel agencies not to arrange any group tours to mainland China.
It blames a ‘lack of goodwill’ from China and the recent altering of flight paths which Taiwan claims would ‘affect aviation safety.’
Taiwan was set to resume group tours to the mainland after the Lunar New Year holidays.
The Tourism Administration said tours already booked from March to May can go ahead but those for later dates should be cancelled.
Taiwan says China hasn’t made efforts to reciprocate the flow of group tours and urged China to ‘open up group tours to Taiwan for mainland travellers as soon as possible.’
Although outbound group tours have resumed to many countries, China hasn’t made plans to restart them to Taiwan
“After taking the change of circumstances and the safety of Taiwanese travellers into account, it has been decided that the (group tour) plan will no longer be implemented,” the Tourism Administration said.
