Taiwan eases travel restrictions
Taiwan will partly lift border restrictions to allow entry of some foreign visitors.
However, it isn’t yet allowing general tourism.
From 1 March, Taiwan will open up to foreign nationals without residency permits subject to receiving advance approval from Taiwan’s overseas consular offices.
It will allow entry for work and business reasons, education and family reasons and people from China, Hong Kong and Macau travelling under special circumstances will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
The new rules are effectively the same as before 1 January when it tightened border controls to combat the spead of new Covid variants.
Taiwan’s Central Epidemic Command Center said it will also allow some transit passengers again through Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport .
They are allowed only when connecting on flights operated by the same airline group and with no more than eight hours layover.
Transiting passengers will be seated in a separate area on flights and will be confined to special areas within the airport.
