Taiwan pilot facing disciplinary action for skipping quarantine
Another Taiwan airline pilot is in hot water for breaching quarantine rules.
China Airlines (CAL) said it take action against a co-pilot who skipped home quarantine to play golf.
He had returned from a cargo flight from San Francisco and left quarantine a day early.
The pilot admitted a breach of rules.
The incident has been presented to the Civil Aeronautics Administration and a disciplinary committee will convene to determine what punishment is appropriate.
A New Zealand native pilot working for rival EVA Air was fired recently after breaking protocols and nfecting another person, which resulted in the first domestic Covid transmission in Taiwan for several months.
Authorities have now beefed up measures for pilots and flight attendants on long haul flights, and extended their home quarantine period.
EVA Airways says it has fired eight employees – four pilots and four cabin crew – for breaching various Covid-19 rules since March 2020.
