TAP Air Portugal has expanded its international network with the launch of new routes from Lisbon to Curitiba, Brazil, and Athens, Greece, marking another step in the airline’s 2026 growth strategy.
The new Curitiba service began on July 2 and operates three times a week using Airbus A330-200 aircraft. Flights depart Lisbon on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays before continuing from Curitiba to Rio de Janeiro, with return flights to Lisbon departing from Rio.
The addition of Curitiba increases TAP’s Brazilian network to 14 destinations, further strengthening its position as the leading European airline serving Brazil. The carrier continues to view Brazil as one of its most important international markets, supported by strong historical, cultural and business ties between the two countries.
Curitiba, the capital of Paraná state, is one of southern Brazil’s largest economic centers and is known for its manufacturing sector, high quality of life and growing business links with Europe. TAP expects the route to attract both corporate and leisure travelers.
A day earlier, on July 1, the airline inaugurated nonstop flights between Lisbon and Athens. The route operates five times a week during the summer season.
The Athens service is currently operated with Airbus A320neo aircraft before switching to Embraer E190 jets during the IATA winter schedule.
The new route expands TAP’s presence in southeastern Europe while adding another popular Mediterranean destination to its network.
In parallel, TAP Air Portugal also launched new routes from Porto, reinforcing its commitment to the north of the country. On 1 and 2 July, the airline started flying to Terceira Island in the Azores and to the city of Praia in Cape Verde.
“The launch of services to Curitiba and Athens reinforces our growth strategy in key markets, consolidating our leadership in Brazil and expanding our European network from our Lisbon hub,” said TAP Air Portugal CEO Luís Rodrigues.
The four new routes are part of the airline’s broader expansion plans for 2026, focused on increasing international connectivity and strengthening Lisbon’s role as a gateway linking Europe with the Americas and Africa. The strategy also supports TAP’s continued investment in long-haul and regional markets while offering passengers more connection options across its global network.
