Tasmania locals offered AUD1,000 incentive to rent out their cars to tourists
The Tasmanian government will offer incentives of up to $1,000 to local car owners to rent out their vehicles to visiting tourists. With tourist footfall increasing, there is a serious lack of hire cars available after hire companies sold off most of their fleet to stay afloat when the pandemic struck.
The supply shortage has inevitably led to surge pricing. Some tourists have been forced to cancel their trip due to the difficulty in arranging car hire.
