Taste of the Titanic on the Sunshine Coast
The man who wants to build a replica of the Titanic is offering a taste of what it was like to dine on board the ill-fated liner.
Clive Palmer, Australian mining entrepreneur and resort owner, is hosting the Titanic Culinary Journey being held at Palmer Coolum Resort on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast from July 30-August 5.
Palmer said the event is being held to mark the 100-year anniversary of the tragic demise of the original vessel which sank in the north Atlantic in 1912.
"It’s a unique chance to taste the food, feel the atmosphere and experience what it was like to be on the Titanic in 1912," he said.
One of Palmer’s companies, Blue Star Line, is currently constructing Titanic II, a full-scale version of the original ship which is scheduled to embark on its maiden voyage in late 2016.
The Palmer Coolum Resort’s restaurants will serve dishes from the Titanic’s various menus, all authentically recreated, such as Poached Salmon with Mousseline Sauce and Filet Mignons Lili from first class, to third class fare such as Roasted Pork with Sage and Onions.
The week will culminate with the Captain’s Atlantic Dinner accompanied by a string quartet and a band playing Irish music.
