Tech giants file their own challenge to 'unlawful' travel ban

Monday, 6 February 20173 min read
Despite the Trump travel ban being blocked for a little while longer at least, the nation’s tech giants have stepped into the fray with their own legal challenge.
Nearly 100 tech companies, including Uber, Apple and Facebook filed a motion stating the executive order ‘violates the immigration laws and the Constitution.’
"Immigrants make many of the Nation’s greatest discoveries, and create some of the country’s most innovative and iconic companies," it said.
A federal judge temporarily blocked the ban, giving affected travelers from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen a small window of opportunity to enter the US legally.
That sparked a critical response from Trump on Twitter.
"Just cannot believe a judge would put our country in such peril," Trump opined.
The Administration’s latest bid to reinstate the ban comes today but whatever the outcome, legal experts say subsequent appeals from the losing side will likely mean the Supreme Court will have the final say.
