Ten TransAsia pilots fail proficiency tests

Friday, 13 February 20153 min read

As the final victim of the TransAsia crash was pulled from the Keelung River, the airline said 29 pilots have been temporarily grounded after failing or missing safety tests ordered after the crash.

Taiwan’s aviation regulator said that out of 68 pilots, 10 failed proficiency tests on operating and emergency procedures and a further 19 were unable to take the test due to sickness or unavailability.

Those pilots unavailable are reportedly overseas on other training courses.

"These results are not acceptable, we will definitely strengthen their training," said TransAsia chief executive Peter Chen.

The final victim, identified as Chinese national Chen Rentai, was found three kilometres from the initial crash site still strapped to his seat.

This brings the death toll to 43 from flight GE235 which crashed shortly after take-off from Songshan Airport last week.

The airline said it would cancel another 44 flights on Friday due to the suspension of the pilots.
