Tenerife at 'very high risk, 'sparking tighter Covid curbs

Winter sunshine breaks in Tenerife are now subject too tighter Covid curbs.

The holiday destination has escalated the alert level to ‘very high risk’ in response to a surge in Covid infections.

New measures are now in effect with no more than six people allowed to gather indoors and outdoors, unless they are part of the same household.

Covid passes are now required to enter businesses, while pubs and restaurants must shut by midnight and reduce capacity levels.

In addition, public transport is capped at 75% capacity.

The new measures will be reviewed on January 24.

On Sunday, there were nearly 3,000 new cases of Covid in the Canary Islands with.nine more deaths.

President of the Canary Islands Government, Ángel Víctor Torres said there was ‘real concern" about the pressure on health services.

"There is hardly any family that does not have a member who has tested positive. t is not an exceptional issue in the Canary Islands, it is happening all over the world."
