Tenerife has reported a 20% jump in UK visitors in the first five months of this year.
With rival winter sun destinations like Tunisia and Sharm el Sheikh off limits, due to FCO advice, the Canary island welcomed over 800,000 British visitors from January to May 2016, representing an increase of 20.8% on the previous year.
The jump was on the back of a 4.8% increase to 1,765,216 visitors for the whole of 2015.
The rise in British visitors was twice as high as the overall rise in visitor numbers.
This means 34% of all visitors to Tenerife come from the UK, which is also has the highest levels of repeat visitors to the island.
The tourist office said the majority of British travellers to Tenerife prefer to stay in four and five star hotels, especially in the beach resorts in the south of the island.
