Terry Fisher becomes Gold Medal MD
Former Going Places managing director Terry Fisher has made an unexpected comeback into the travel industry after accepting the role of Gold Medal MD.
Fisher headed up Going Places for a turbulent two years after he sold his agency business, Travelworld, to Airtours in 1998, earning him over £7.7 million.
During his time with the agency chain, he made a series of controversial cost-cutting measures including getting rid of cleaners from Going Places shops.
At Travelworld in the 1990s, Fisher worked with Gold Medal owner Ken Townsley.
“Although I had no intention of returning to UK travel, I saw the position of taking the helm at Gold Medal as a fantastic opportunity and Ken came along with an offer that was too good to turn down,” said Fisher.
The announcement comes after Gold Medal general manager of sales Jill Martin quit the company last month. She worked with Fisher during his time at Going Places.
Fisher replaces Wayne Pearce who left as manging director some months ago.
