Texas port is among fastest growing in US

Thursday, 18 Jul, 2006 0

One of the US’s fastest-growing ports is in Galveston.

Passenger counts only five years ago were 32,000, which now has gone to 600,000 anticipated this year. That’s an increase of more than 1770%.

Accompanying the staggering increase in ship traffic, Galveston has added new bus and taxi staging areas to improve traffic flow.

Prominent carriers here include Royal Caribbean’s Voyager of the Seas. Carnival Cruises’ Carnival Conquest and Princess Cruises’ Grand Princess. Most cruises are run four to seven days to the Western Caribbean.
