THAI Airways aiming to resume direct US flights

Thailand flag carrier THAI Airways International has hinted it plans to re-introduce direct fights to the US after a five year gap.
THAI last flew direct to the US in 2012 when it scrapped the Bangkok-Los Angeles route due to spiralling operating costs.
However any new flights are dependent on the US Federal Aviation Administration lifting a current ban on all Thai carriers flying into US airspace due to safety concerns.
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) also currently bans Thai airlines.
If it gets the green light from the aviation authorities, THAI will likely fly to either Seattle or San Francisco this time round.
"The service will be the first non-stop flight from Bangkok without stopping over in Korea or Japan like before. It will be a key selling point for us because no other airlines operate a direct flight from the US to Bangkok," the airline’s president Charamporn Jotikasthira said.
Two Boeing 787-900 aircraft due for delivery next year will serve the route, he said.
