Thai bombers target hotel
Singaporeans are being urged to postpone all non-essential travel to Thailand’s troubled south following last weekend’s bomb blasts in Yala and Hat Yai.
Explosions caused by car bombs, one at the Lee Gardens Plaza Hotel in Hat Yai, killed 13 people, including two Malaysians, and injured more than 300.
Thailand’s first major car bomb targeting a hotel was linked to the separate bomb incident in Yala province that occurred on the same day.
The Hat Yai incident is expected to deter foreign tourists, mainly Malaysians and Singaporeans, from visiting the popular tourist town during the upcoming Songkran festival.
Malaysia’s low cost carrier Firefly responded to the bomb attacks by deferring the launch of its new route between Subang and Hat Yai.
A Firefly spokesman said, “Our passengers’ safety is our top priority. We will postpone commencement of these flights until we think it is safe to fly.”
