Thailand expands full tourism reopening to 46 countries
Thailand will allow fully-vaxxed nationals of 46 countries to enter quarantine-free from 1 November.
Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs released the list which includes Australia, China, Germany, UAE, the UK, US and Switzerland.
Arrivals must come by air and show proof of vaccination, negative PCR test result, Covid-19 insurance cover and a confirmed hotel booking.
The country’s sandbox system is still operating for vaccinated travellers from other countries while those not inoculated can enter subject to quarantine.
The updated list is a big jump from the 10 initially announced by the Thai PM earlier this month.
Upon arrival, travellers take another Covid test and must book the first night in an approved hotel while awaiting the test results.
Thailand plans to press ahead with reopening on a larger scale despite only having about 40% of the population fully vaccinated.
It will ‘stimulate the tourism sector,’ Thai PM Prahut said.
"We need to move faster than that and do it now. Because waiting for everything to be perfect will be too late."
Thailand lost about $50 billion in lost tourism revenue last year.
