Thailand first in Asia to decriminalize marijuana
Thailand became Asia’s first country to decriminalize marijuana. The Narcotics Control Board took cannabis off the list of controlled drugs.
However, the actual legal status of recreational cannabis use is still unclear due to various other laws still in force.
Thailand became the first Asian country in 2020 to decriminalize production and use of marijuana for medical reasons. A draft Cannabis Act is expected to be tabled to clarify the legal status of recreational marijuana use.
