The Ghan in tribute to the ANZACS
One of Australia’s iconic rail services, The Ghan, will embark on its second annual ANZAC tribute trip from Darwin to Adelaide from April 24-27.
The Ghan played a vital role transporting troops in Australia during the Second World War and this year’s journey also marks the 70th anniversary of the bombing of Darwin.
ANZAC Day will be celebrated in Katherine, a town hit by almost 100 bombs. There will also be a visit to the Adelaide River War Cemetery and passengers will hear from guest historian Dr Tom Lewis, director of the Darwin Military Museum.
The Ghan will follow the route of the original troop train through the Flinders Ranges – just as servicemen and women did in the Second World War – from Port Augusta.
Fares range from $2,354 per person to $4,077 per person depending on the class of travel.
For every ticket sold, Great Southern Rail will be donating $100 to the Returned Services League of Australia (RSL).
