The Mississippi Museum of Natural Science will host NASA’s interactive traveling exhibit, “The Vision for Space Exploration Experience” on September 25 – 27, 2007. The exhibit inspires visitors as they embark upon a simulated journey into space and is housed in a 60 foot trailer which will be open during regular museum hours in the museum’s visitor parking lot. The museum is partnering with the Russell C. Davis Planetarium on the project.
The Experience begins with a cosmic waiting area where visitors will learn what they need to travel to the moon and Mars. After the “training session”, holographic video maps of the moon and Mars allow visitors to learn more about their surfaces, the history of NASA’s research on each, and future plans for exploration.
The second section of the exhibit features a hexagonal theater with an interactive floor that allows visitors to feel as if they are walking on the surfaces of the moon and Mars.
“We invite you to experience moon and Mars walking at the Museum,” says
museum director Libby Hartfield.
Regular museum admission applies. The museum is located at 2148 Riverside Drive in Jackson. Call 601.354.7303 for details.
