The Painter Man of Four Points
The days of Australian artists being confined to the studio are coming to an end with Four Points by Sheraton Darling Harbour announcing prominent landscape artist Robert Fisher as their first Artist in Residence.
Robert has been painting professionally for more than 20 years. He says ‘I find excitement in my work as my work as my images come from within. It’s a matter of learning, living and evolving. I don’t find my work relaxing’
Robert believes as a sixteen year old a trip on the Ghan changed his creative expression forever when floods forced the train to stop at William Creek.
Despite the bush fascination, Robert Fisher was born and raised in the North Melbourne suburb of Reservoir.
In addition to his studio in Melbourne, Robert also draws inspiration flying across the South Australian outback from his base at William Creek. A Fisher painting also hangs from the ceiling of the local pub where he is known as ‘the Painter Man of William Creek’.
‘When I paint I do so with intensity, its gut wrenching, it’s intense. Sometimes the hours pass by and you realize that you have been at the easel for 12 hours. Painting is my life and it’s a compulsion. It’s an addiction.’ He said.
Robert will be joining Four Points by Sheraton Darling Harbour on the 22nd and 23rd April 2008 to work on a original piece and create a new sense of art history at Four Points.
Upon completion Robert Fisher’s works will be on display at the Wentworth Gallery Four Points.
