Clear-bottomed kayaking in the brightest bioluminescent bay in the world
Puerto Rico is home to three of the world’s five bioluminescent bays: Fajardo Bioluminescent Bay, La Parguera and Mosquito Bay. These rare ecosystems happen occur when dinoflagellates grow in quantities big enough to produce a ‘glow-in-the-dark’ effect. So, when you paddle or splash the water, these organisms light up in a neon blue-green color. For a stunning bioluminescent experience, head to the world’s brightest bay, Mosquito Bay on the island of Vieques. You can enjoy this surreal experience at night in a clear bottomed kayak. The glowing effect is better appreciated during nights with a new or crescent moon. The island is situated a short, six-mile ferry ride from the mainland, Vieques is a lesser-known island and travellers can also enjoy breathtaking views and pristine, black sand beaches. Practically untouched by large tourist inflows, expect encounters with wildlife including almost 3,000 wild horses roaming the island.
Zipline across San Juan’s skylines
This unique activity allows you to zipline across an teeming urban landscape. TOROVERDE Urban Park in downtown San Juan offers three parallel ziplines between 150 and 900 feet long. These exhilarating zipline journeys give you an aerial tour of the city, as well as the T-Mobile district in which the park is located. The urban park also includes the largest rock climbing wall in the Caribbean, perfect for beginners or rock-climbing pros. A trip to the park is an experience the whole family will enjoy.
