Think big: rent an island
With no shortage of luxury hotels in the Caribbean, some resorts to be competitive have been offering five-nights-for-four pricing but the most sophisticated places find no shortage of bookers. Islands may be the best example.
“This client wants the best accommodations and is willing to spend to obtain those accommodations,” said Bill Fischer, a New York-based travel agent who caters to the wealthy.
One of the lower-costing island retreats is US$1,500 for one of 15 new beachside suites at the Jumby Bay Courtyard, which is a Rosewood Resort on a private island off the coast of Antigua.
Amenities include al fresco bathrooms featuring rain showers and deep-soaking tubs in a private garden.
At the more middle range, there’s Shogun in Mustique, a private island in the Grenadines. For $5700, users get a five-acre estate with a five-bedroom house and two adjacent two bedroom-cottages. The property is designed around a koi pond. Included is a staff of six including a chef and butler.
At perhaps the highest end, $74,300 gets you six-acre retreat at Calivigny off the coast of Grenada Caribbean with six sandy beaches. Also included is a fully staffed 13,000-square-foot beach house with ten suites, furnished with custom pieces by Oscar de La Renta. There are also tennis courts, a heated freshwater swimming pool with a swim-up bar and a yacht that sleeps a dozen people.
The later comes at an additional price of 220,000 euros.
