The Competition Commission has released an interim statement on its investigation into the Thomas Cook, Co-operative Travel and Midlands Co-operative merger highlighting how it may cost holidaymakers.
The Commission says there are four main reasons why the British traveller may suffer as a result of the merger.
These are loss of competitiveness between local agencies, loss of competition between agencies nationally, joint venture agents favouring Thomas Cook packages over others and non-joint venture agents having only limited access to Thomas Cook holidays.
The merger will unite two of the three largest travel agents in the UK, making a chain of 1,240 shops.
The commission will present its full findings in August.
