Thomas Cook cuts have led to widespread uncertainty, says Travel Counsellors

Travel Counsellors is planning to run a live webcast next week after receiving an "overwhelming" number of enquiries from worried retail staff.

The homeworking group said it received nearly 200 enquires in the first two weeks of March, which is far more than it would normally expect.

But it said enquiries were not just coming from those affected by jobs cuts at Thomas Cook/Co-operative Travel.

"It’s evident that uncertainty has spread throughout the industry with people wanting to see what their options are," said Simon Burke, head of recruitment.

"Not only have we received enquiries from agents in a range of travel high street shops, we’ve also seen interest from Thomas Cook employees who haven’t been put at risk of redundancy, but have clearly had their confidence shaken by the news."

Travel Counsellors will be broadcasting a live webcast on Tuesday March 26 at 7pm to outline its business model and to let former Thomas Cook staff share their experiences of joining the homeworking goup.

"We recognise that this is a challenging and stressful time for many travel agents, which is why we have organised a non-committal, easy and stress-free way to find out more information from the comfort of your own home," said Burke.

"It’s a chance for people to ask Travel Counsellors questions in an informal setting."
