Thousands of Lufthansa jobs to disappear as airline pivots to AI

Lufthansa has revealed plans to cut around 4,000 job positions over time as it taps AI to increase profitability and efficiency.

It will lead to the elimination of 4,000 full-time roles globally by 2030, it says.

These will predominantly be in admin roles, and most will be Germany based.

“The Lufthansa Group is reviewing which activities will no longer be necessary in the future, for example due to duplication of work. In particular, the profound changes brought about by digitalization and the increased use of artificial intelligence will lead to greater efficiency,” the airline said.

The downsizing would represent nearly 20% of the airline group’s non-operational workforce.

Lufthansa Group currently employs just over 100,000 people.
