Ticket scammers celebrating first grandson
A series of scam artists have been calling agents saying they need airline tickets to see a new grandchild or there’s been a death in the family or a missionary trip is planned, says ARC.
In the past week, several agents reported similar calls from unfamiliar customers requesting immediate ticketing for emergency reasons.
“Do not fall for a sympathy ploy from someone you don’t know,” said Allen Muten, director, marketing and corporate communications. “Check it out and verify the information given to you.”
Some agents caught the scam when they tried to call the listed phone number only to find it was disconnected; other agents avoided the scam by trying to verify the address.
The recent scams had a pattern in that they were directed towards rural areas and the requested travel was all domestic, among other similarities.
Mr Muten suggests adopting a company policy on unknown customers that requires a manual credit card imprint and the original cardholder signature.
