Agents and operators can pick up valuable tips on generating new business on the back of increased demand for wildlife tourism, including the rise in popularity of TV documentaries, at a new one-day trade summit.

The Wildlife, Safari and Conservation Summit (WSCS) is a new trade event to be held the day before the two-day consumer Wildlife and Safari Show, which returns to Harrogate in October after its inaugral event last year.

Show organiser Converge Exhibitions has partnered with Adventure Connection to create the summit, which will include conference sessions, round-table discussions and networking opportunities.

Round table discussions include animal welfare in tourism, travelling without plastic, expedition and small-ship cruising, and how to get the most out of educational trips.

There will also be an exhibition marketplace in the morning and conference sessions in the afternoon including how to generate new business from wildlife documentaries.

WSCS organiser Lorraine Barnes Burton said: "Interest in wildlife, safari and conservation travel is growing fast. All delegates will have the chance to hear and learn from industry leaders about the challenges, opportunities and trends in wildlife, safari and conservation travel.

"We want to encourage more agents and operators to attend the summit, especially the round table expert discussions in the morning, as well as the educational and topical conference sessions in the afternoon.

"We’ve got a great programme lined up for the conference speakers including panel discussions and expert presentations.

"We want to offer the trade the chance to up their game when it comes to selling wildlife and safari holidays to consumers who are very aware of their social and environmental responsibilities – particularly when it comes to booking these types of holiday.

"The type of consumer who books this sort of holiday is generally very well prepared and knowledgeable, but there is so much more to learn – and the WSCS Summit will ensure that participants leave having collected lots of useful information which can be transferred into sales and marketing their products."

The WSCS will take place on Friday, October 11, ahead of the two-day consumer exhibition on October 12 and 13 at the Harrogate Convention Centre.

Tickets cost £125 and can be booked online.
