Reports say Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has been secretly working on a new business sideline away from parliamentary life.

Shapps is making a play in the drink business, despite the return to 20% VAT.

He and his backers are set to launch a new drink called ‘The Grant Schnapps ‘this Friday.

Hoping to supplement his parliamentary income with this new venture, the Conservative MP for Welwyn Hatfield is using a creative play on words to push the product.

The drink was reviewed by Will Pischt, the editor of Austrian drinks magazine ‘Die Betrunkene Ente.’

He said: “The Grant Schnapps is without much substance or quality, it’s as if it has been made by somebody who has no idea,”

The product goes on sale from 1 April.
