Tokyo to hold 300 hotel rooms for Olympic athletes who contract Covid

Thursday, 11 Apr, 2021 0

Tokyo Olympic organisers are prepping hundreds of hotel rooms for athletes who test positive for Covid during the Games.

It will put an entire hotel on standby with 300 rooms to accommodate infected athletes, which is located in the Harumi district, a few miles from the athlete’s village.

Positive athletes and other Olympic officials not requiring hospitalisation will be quarantined in rooms for 10 days, and there will be round-the-clock medical cover.

Organisers have previously said all athletes will receive Covid-19 tests every four days.

Only about 1% of Japanese have been vaccinated so far and Tokyo is to have more stringent measures from this week to curb a new wave of infections which have hit the capital and Osaka.

There will be further limits on the opening of bars and restaurants.

The Olympics is set to begin on 23 July and will be the first not to have foreign fans in attendance.

All venues will put limits how many spectators are allowed but hasn’t yet disclosed the numbers.
