Tourists are stranded in Hawaii after the worst floods in years caused landslides that blocked the Kuhio Highway on the north shore.
Dozens were forced to stay overnight in a makeshift shelter in a school near Hanalei and up to 30 campers were stranded in the Napali Coast State Wilderness Park.
The coast guard located about 30 hikers on Kalalau Beach.
Governor David Ige has declared a state of emergency.
Although floodwaters have subsided, many roads remain closed after the weekend’s torrential rain, which forced the evacuation of more than 100 people by helicopter in Kauai.
The National Weather Service recorded 28.1 inches of rainfall over 24 hours in Hanalei, which is officially just shy of the all-time record.
"It’s highly likely that the record was broken by heavy rainfall after the gauge stopped recording," said meteorologist Chevy Chevalier.
Several homes were washed away but there are no reports of major injuries or fatalities.
