Tourists who have criticised Israel could be denied entry

Wednesday, 8 March 20173 min read

People who have publicly called for a boycott of Israel may be denied entry, after the Israeli government passed new legislation.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has issued new advice to say: "Israeli Parliament passed a law on 6 March 2017, which gives authority to deny entry to foreign nationals who have publicly called for a boycott of Israel, or who belong to an organisation which has called for a boycott.

"This travel advice covers Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories."

It is not clear what constitutes a ‘public call’ and whether it includes statements on social media platforms or the signing of a petition.

The FCO advises anyone who is concerned to contact the Israeli embassy for more information.
