Trails of Indochina………
Vietnamese tour specialist Trails of Indochina is offering visitors to Huế a new insight into the culture and history of the former imperial capital with the opening of a new cultural attraction – Ancient Huế.
Owned and operated by Trails of Indochina, the new attraction provides visitors with a glimpse of the rich heritage that once made Huế one of Vietnam’s and south east Asia’s most beautiful cities prior to its virtual destruction during the Vietnam War.
The Ancient Huế attraction is housed inside a lovingly-restored complex designed in traditional regional architectural style.
The complex comprises five intricately carved wooden and tile buildings, each of which has been named after the nearby villages where many of the materials for the buildings and the craftsmen working on the project have been sourced.
The five houses, most of which are more than 150 years old, were originally located in nearby villages and were required to be carefully moved, piece by piece to their new location for restoration.
Features of the complex include an art gallery and a central courtyard, the venue for daily public performances of traditional regional dance and court music and a convention/reception facility for up to 300 people.
Ancient Huế also offers visitors a restaurant serving Vietnamese, Asian and European cuisine.
The complex’s restaurant also doubles up as a venue for Vietnamese cooking classes where groups of between two – 20 can learn how to prepare traditional ‘Royal Cuisine’ under the watchful eyes of expert local chefs.
