Travel agents told to stop posting anti-vax views

Travel agents have been told they should be supporting the Covid vaccination efforts and to stop spreading anti-vax messages.

And they’ve been warned that if they post ‘fake news’ or anti-vax views on a popular travel industry Facebook group their messages will be removed.

Bruce Martin who runs Travel Gossip on FB told the almost 23,000 members in a post the issue could no longer be debated on the group.

He wrote: "Any posts that spread fake news or anti-vaccine views will be removed. Sorry, but it’s not up for debate on here anymore. We work in travel and should all be supporting efforts to vaccinate. Previous posts like this also cause loads of rancour on here which no-one needs at the moment."

His comments came as the UK’s vaccination minister Nadhim Zahawi confirmed the Government will make vaccination certificates available if holidaymakers need them to travel.

So far more than 15 million people in the UK have received at least one dose of the Covid vaccine.

All those in the top four priority groups in England have been offered the vaccine, which is now being rolled out to the over-65s and clinically vulnerable.

While the Government appears to have dismissed the idea of a vaccine passport to allow people to travel, several countries including Greece, Cyprus and Israel are set to allow test and quarantine-free entry to those who have been vaccinated.

Others, including Mauritius, have indicated they will ban tourists who haven’t been vaccinated.

Last month Saga became the first UK travel company to announce only vaccinated passengers will be allowed on its tours and cruises when they resume in May.
