Travel chaos on regional routes after SkyWest outage
Hundreds of regional flights across the country remain impacted after an ‘internal technical issue’ at SkyWest Airlines.
It said that more than700 flights were cancelled Thursday.and about 500 are affected for Friday.
SkyWest operates regional flights for major network carriers including Delta, Alaska Air, American, and United Airlines.
A ‘server outage’ was the cause.
"SkyWest experienced an internal technical issue, resulting in approximately 700 flight cancellations before the issue was resolved Thursday evening," the company said.
"We apologize to customers for the inconvenience; we are working to minimize the impact on Friday’s schedule and to return to normal operations as quickly as possible."
It is ‘still experiencing operational disruption as we work to get crew and aircraft into position.’
American Airlines said more than 200 flights were affected on Thursday and Friday.
It affected about 400 Delta flights.
SkyWest operates a fleet of over 450 aircraft, offering feeder flights into major hubs for the big airlines.
Earlier this month Southwest Airlines cancelled more than 2,000 flights due to staffing shortages and bad weather conditions.
It cost the airline $75 million.
