Travel Counsellors moves Down Under
UK home working agency group Travel Counsellors is to open in Australia.
The latest expansion follows the company opening in the US and South Africa in addition to a growing European presence.
The move, based on a new headquarters in Melbourne, follows more than nine months of planning and represents the sixth launch of the home-working concept overseas in the last two and a half years.
The company aims to recuit up to 70 home-based agents in itrs first year of business in Australia. Travel Counsellors has almsot 800 home working staff worldwide.
Peter Watson, formerly with Jetset, ATAC, Jetset TravelWorld and Concorde, has been taken on as general manager in Australia. Tim Martin, who established National World Travel in a number of states, becomes head of sales.
Managing director Steve Byrne said: “After researching the market for the past 12 months, we know the market conditions are right for us, but to launch successfully we needed to find the right people and we are therefore pleased to have Peter and Tim to lead the company.
“They provide a huge amount of experience and knowledge that will be invaluable in bringing the Travel Counsellors concept and track record to Australia and attracting the best agents to join us – as part of our vision to create a truly international community of the very best agents worldwide.”
Founder and chairman David Speakman added; “We want to build the best travel company in the world and our expasnion into Australia is a very important step along the way.”
The company will only recruit what is sees as the most experienced agents who will then be trained on the company’s intranet bookings system and dynamic packaging technology.
