Travel company Kiwi.com is celebrating World Tourism Day by hosting a series of hackathons aiming to make travel smarter and more sustainable.

The idea is to bring together a community of engineers and tech-savvy people under a global #HackTravel movement.

Kiwi.com’s global travel hackathons are planned across Europe in Barcelona, Zagreb, Belgrade Serbia, Brno in the Czech Republic, London and Chetumal, Mexico.

Up for grabs is €4,000 in vouchers to the winning team who will also be accommodated in Prague and receive a feedback session with Kiwi.com’s top engineers.

"We’re inviting everyone to help us reshape the way we travel to make it smarter, sustainable and accessible for everyone," said Jozef Képesi, Kiwi.com co-founder and CTO.

The idea behind the Global Travel Hackathon series is to identify a new generation of innovators, and to provide them with a supportive environment to help their ideas blossom.

It is seeking projects in usable applications focused on sustainability, accessibility and community.

For example this can encompass solutions to deal with the impact of mass tourism, or making travel more accessible for people with disabilities.

Often lasting for 24 hours, developers, designers and managers have the opportunity to build out their solution, with the best being rewarded.

Other locations will be added for events which take place on September 27, 2019, World Tourism Day.

More information is available online at hack.travel.

"We’re currently searching for partners and organizers who would like to add their events. Anyone can get in touch with us to get promo support and a chance to take part in a remote, global round where you can win €4,000 in travel vouchers," said Jan Bleha, community manager at Kiwi.com.
