There was mixed fortune for travel industry shares yesterday as London’s equity markets declined amid a bout of profit taking.

The FTSE 100 index lost 1.8 per cent of its value after several days of gains, dropping 75.5 points to close at 4131.5, while the FTSE 250 fared little better, losing 36.1 points to close at 5048.8. Dealers were moderately busy, trading three billion shares on the day.

Online retailers ebookers and lastminute.com both took a big hit yesterday, ebookers losing 16 points for a 447.5p finish and lastminute.com falling back 13.5p to close at 165.5p.

Among the airlines, British Airways lost 5.75p to close at 160.25p, EasyJet added 2.5p for a 202p finish, and Ryanair finished the session at 413p, up 8p. First Choice gained 1.75p to close at 113.5p and MyTravel slid back 0.26p to close at 20.60p.
