Tuesday was yet another disappointing day for travel industry shares as London’s equity markets slumped badly.

The FTSE 100 index lost 1.2 per cent of its value, dropping 51.4 points to close at 4091.3, while the broader-based FTSE 250 dropped by a similar amount, losing 44.5 points to end the day at 5457.8.

Airlines had a tough time; British Airways lost 2.25p to close at 166.25p, easyJet was down 2.25p to 219.75p, and Ryanair was static at 10.5p.

Online retailers also had a tough time; ebookers dropped 15p to 525p, while lastminute.com had a similar day, dropping 10.5p to close at 255p.

First Choice Holidays was static at 121.5p, and MyTravel dropped a penny to end the day at 19.75p.
