Industry shares enjoyed a very positive session yesterday as London’s equity markets rallied after three successive days of losses.

The FTSE 100 index pushed ahead by 0.4 per cent of its value, closing 14.7 points to the good at 4236.4, while the FTSE 250 added 11.3 points to close at 5633.0, a gain of 0.2 per cent. Dealers were once again very busy with 3.7 billion shares bought and sold on the day.

Among the airlines, British Airways added 1.25p to close at 179.25p, easyjet jumped 8.5p for a 238p finish, and Ryanair also did well to close at 419.5p, up 11.5p.

First Choice Holidays managed to gain a penny to close at 122p, while MyTravel put on 2p to close at 21.5p – a gain of more than 10%.

Online retailer ebookers moved ahead 8.5p to close at 565p, while rival Lastminute.com did not fare so well, dropping 3p to end the day at 281.5p.
