Travel Trade Extras/Travel Extras Tsunami Appeal
The Mayday Group, Luton based parent company of the Travel Extras and Travel Trade Extras brands, has to date (24/01/05) raised in excess of £15,000 for the Tsunami appeal fund. Staff and suppliers of the travel and car rental firm have raised over £5,000 by ‘dressing down’ and donating unwanted Christmas gifts as raffle prizes. The company itself has contributed a further £10,000 in addition to its ongoing annual fundraising commitment to the Save the Children charity. More than 2,000 telephone calls have been taken from customers and the public offering support and much needed items such as clothing, food and toiletries. The groups van rental fleet and staff has also been out daily collecting items for sorting at the company’s premises. To date, staff and volunteers have sorted, packaged and filled three 40ft containers, which are currently being dispatched to Sri Lanka. Ray Mulford, group managing director, said: “I would wholeheartedly thank everyone for their contribution both in terms of items and time”. “What occurred on Boxing Day will live with thousands of people for many years to come and if our contribution supports only a handful of those affected, we have made a difference”. The Mayday Group is continuing its efforts; they are however currently only able to accept cash donations due to the immense volume of items already donated. To contribute, please visit www.travelextras.com/aid or telephone the firms dedicated Appeal Line on 08700 786 637.
