Travelers steering away from conventional accommodations
A growing travel trend: consumers are choosing non-traditional accommodations.
An example: Travelers booking destination reunions are more likely than ever to stay in a condominium over other lodging options, says a recent VacationSpot.com study.
“Family gatherings are spreading out beyond the typical backyard barbecues at Uncle Joe’s house,” said Rick Fisher, spokesperson for VacationSpot.com.
He observed that travelers are more accustomed to larger spaces. The average square footage of homes in the US has gone up more than 800 square feet since the mid 1970s.
“People don’t live in one room at home, why should they be expected to do that on vacation?” he asked.
Proximity is also an important factor in family reunions because 62% of respondents to the survey said they drove to their destination.
The typical length of meetings is anywhere from a weekend to a week.
