Travelling to and from airport ‘most stressful’ part of trip
Getting to and from the airport is one of the most stressful aspects of travelling, according to a new survey.
The nationwide poll of UK travellers found that one in five said they dreaded getting from an airport into the centre of town or city more than the actual flight itself.
Although it is mostly men making travel arrangements to get to the airport, it is women who are most likely to get stressed during the journey, the survey found.
According to the results, getting to the airport on time was more stressful than remembering tickets and passports or locking up the house securely.
More than 40% of people said they prefer to drive themselves to the airport, with 20% relying on taxis and 23% taking lifts from friends.
Almost 60% found taxi fares overpriced while 66% said airport parking was overpriced.
The findings come from a poll by National Express Dot2Dot, a new airport shuttle service which is launched tomorrow serving Heathrow and Gatwick (see previous TravelMole story).
The new shuttles have been configured to give customers extra space and legroom. In addition they will have state of the art satellite navigation equipment, congestion tracking systems.
Managing director Paul Whitfield said: “We use the latest technology to make sure we know the best way to and from the airport at all times.
“We also have access to London’s bus lanes – unlike minicabs or friends and family giving travellers a lift to the airport – so we can promise a speedy and convenient airport transfer that will leave the rest of the traffic standing.”
